Volunteer Role Description
Volunteer role: Summer of Fun, Enagement Volunteer at the Amelia
Service: Culture Team
Responsible To: Liz Challis/Miriam Rodriguez
Dates: Exhibition open May (TBC) – Sep (TBC)
Introduction: Get ready for an amazing summer opportunity at The Amelia Scott! We would love some help with Gallery Facilitation, object handling, supporting Discovery Days and Park Safaris.
Upcoming Exhibition: Archaeology Adventure (May – August) will enable people to step into the world of historical discovery and family fun.
Last year, the exhibition at the same dates (Brickosours) saw an astounding 30,000+ visitors. Families, enthusiasts, and curious minds alike were drawn to visiting time and time again. Learning through play being a key element of what we do. The volunteers taking on this role will play a vital part in making this year’s exhibition just as, if not more, spectacular!
Main Activities:
- Welcoming: Greet visitors warmly as they enter the Archaeology Adventure exhibition, creating a positive and inviting atmosphere.
- Activity areas: Encourage visitors to explore and get creative in the activity stations within the exhibtion. Encouraging participation and enhancing their overall experience. Promote linked activities being undertaken throughout the school holidays, this including the Summer Reading Challenge, Discovery Days and linked trail.
- Information sharing: Provide additional details about the various archaeology objects on display.
- Guidance: Assist visitors in navigating the exhibition, highlighting key features, and ensuring a smooth flow through the displays. Ensure the safety of visitors by promoting responsible behaviour and adhering to venue safety guidelines.
- Tidiness: Maintain cleanliness and tidiness within the exhibition area, ensuring a visually appealing and organised environment.
- Feedback Collection: Gather feedback from visitors to assess their experience and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Discovery Day/ Park Safari support: Support the facilitation of drop in craft activities (Discovery Days) linked to the exhibition (10:00 – 15:00 Wed, Fri, Sat during Summer Holidays) and Park Safaris (bug hunts in local parks on Thursdays during the summer holidays).

- Ability to be proactively helpful
- Willingness to learn and undergo training. You don’t need to know everything about The Amelia but enthusiasm and passion for local area is a good place to start.
- Willingness to learn practical methods of delivering learning
- Confidence speaking to groups of young people and families.
- Reliable, punctual and well presented
- Team workers who enjoy working with a diverse range of people and can work effectively in a collaborative manner
- ‘Volunteer’ T-shirt will need to be worn.

Time Commitment
A rota will be produced depending on volunteers availability. Volunteers are expected to be present at least 15 minutes before they are due to start
